Recently, there has been another bright sign that silver is strong and looking stronger.
3,937,000 American Silver Eagle bullion coins were sold on the opening sales day in 2013. This is the highest total for one-day sales ever. In 2012, 3,197,000 coins were sold on the first day; this is the second-highest total. Just to give you an idea how anomalous this extreme level of sales was, from 2009 to the beginning of the silver coin selling programme in 1986, no monthly total was able to top this recent one-day sales.
This one day of sales easily beat out the historical average for per-month sales!
The fact that there was the highest one day sale total ever suggests that investors are turning their attention to silver coins, and especially the American Silver Eagle.
In addition, there was such high demand for new coins that there was a three-week period where authorized dealers couldn't even buy any coins. There was a temporary shortage. This created a premium on top of the regular price for anybody who owned the coins. The premium was the price over the spot price. With all these factors, the 2013 American Silver Eagle bullion coin looks to be the highlight of 2013's silver line-up.
